A journey from Boom to Dhoom : Katrina Kaif

Katrina Kaif first expressed interest in a modelling career at the age of fourteen, when she won a beauty contest in Hawaii, and subsequently received her first assignment as a model—a jewellery campaign. She continued modelling in London, where she worked for various freelance agencies. She also featured regularly at the London Fashion Week. Her appearance at a fashion show attracted the attention of London-based filmmaker Kaizad Gustad, who selected her for a role in the English / Hindi erotic heist film Boom, alongside an ensemble cast consisting of Amitabh Bachchan, Gulshan Grover, Jackie Shroff, Madhu Sapre and Padma Lakshmi. Whilst shooting for the film in India, Kaif began receiving other offers, and decided to stay in the country. She soon established a successful modelling career there after endorsing prominent brands like Coca-Cola, LG, Fevicol and Samsung. She also gained recognition after walking the ramp for Rohit Bal at the Lakme Fashion Week in 2003.

That she’s worked in the big league in the B’town, is an added advantage. She learnt a lot during the journey, “I have learnt so much from every film,” she says. “I worked with Akshay (Kumar) for the first time in 'Humko Diwana Kar Gaye'. That’s when I learnt how emotions should be projected. While in 'Partner' and 'Maine Pyaar Kyun Kiya', I learnt the importance of comedy and being spontaneous, while delivering dialogues. 'Namaste London' saw me playing an important character for the first time.”

She continued, “With 'Race'  I developed confidence, while performing in front of the cameras. I realised the importance of hard work. I also discovered what a difference it makes when I dance with exuberance.”

She added that “earlier, while performing dance numbers, I would get nervous, which is not the case now. By the time I did 'Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara' and 'Meri Brother Ki Dulhan', I discovered I was getting comfortable with acting. However, with 'Jab Tak Hai Jaan' and 'Ek Tha Tiger' my star image also included acting. In 'Dhoom-3', I have attempted performing stunts too, which has helped me reach a different level.”

The actress said she can now vouch for her hard work. She went on, “As an actor, I have learnt to be disciplined. Yes! I can vouch for my hard work. I leave no stone unturned, and put in my most sincere and whole-hearted  efforts. I don’t  like to give a chance to anyone to feel that I am shirking work. If any character that I play, needs improvement, I work on it seriously until I succeed in giving  my best.”

Katrina is one of the few actress who has worked with all the three Khans (Salman, Aamir and Shah Rukh). “All three have very powerful personalities. All of them have worked hard to attain their position. They are still ruling the roost and to maintain this position they have to keep working even harder.”

She admits, “I share a different rapport with the three Khans. Salman has seen me grow as an actor, hence I feel most comfortable with him. He is one of the most important persons in my life.”

Katrina enjoys a fan following of both men and women. Men want their ideal woman to be like Kat. “I feel really happy to know that,” says the actress adding, “More than money and fame, I crave the love and respect of people.”

“I do not crave the number one position, simply because you may lose it, and at that point you may feel disheartened. I believe in working hard, putting my best foot forward and leaving the rest to God.”

Feast your eyes: It's the last time ever you'll see Puja in a bikini!

It might have started with Sharmila Tagore back in the '60s but everyone from Bipasha Basu to Priyanka Chopra to Kareena Kapoor has donned one in their recent films.

Yes, we're talking about bikinis here! Surprisingly, it seems like newcomers aren't very comfortable with the whole idea of showing off some skin.

Turns out Puja Gupta is already fed up of this skimpy attire and says she'd rather prefer not to be seen in risque clothing in her forthcoming films.
For the record, the Bollywood starlet has done three films so far -- F.A.L.T.U, Go Goa Gone and the upcoming Shortcut Romeo -- and she has appeared in two-piece in all of them.

But seems like we won't be seeing anymore of her in such avatar anytime soon, as she has now taken an oath to stay away from scripts that has a repeat factor in them.

Not only the clothing but also the film's locations seems to be of immediate concern to her.

`I have decided that I'm not going to wear a bikini in my films again. I have also decided not to shoot in Goa and Mauritius anymore. I want to explore new places and new characters, ` chuckles the 24-year-old.

Katrina Kaif working out five hours a day for Dhoom 3

Katrina Kaif's upcoming film Dhoom 3 is an action-packed project. And while the actresses in the last two installments of the franchisee have stayed away from high-octane drama, the third rendition seems to be different.

Sources say Katrina is expected to be seen doing stunts and for this she has stepped up her workout regime to fit the bill.

A source says, "Katrina is going all out to prepare for her role. Since the last few days Katrina's trainer who has come down from London has upped her training schedule from two hours to five hours. She is being trained for her stamina, resistance and strength. She needs to be in peak shape to perform her scenes."

While for a layman, five hours may seem too much but Katrina is a sport. "Katrina's trainer has divided her workout into two schedules. During her break, she finishes her meetings and sometimes even squeezes in film dubbings," adds the source.

Katrina Kaif will play a movie star in ‘Bombay Talkies’

Speculations have been rife that Katrina Kaif and Zoya Akhtar are itching to work together after Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara. Little surprise that Kat is the one finalized for a special role in the Zoya Akhtar-directed segment in the omnibus film Bombay Talkies -- an ode to Indian cinema.

As per sources, Katrina Kaif and Zoya Akhtar became good friends after working in ZNMD, and Zoya promised Kat that they will work again soon. And now it’s confirmed! Katrina Kaif will play herself in Zoya Akhtar’s segment of Bombay Talkies, which is a compilation of four short films, marking the hundred years of Indian cinema.

In the movie, Katrina will play muse to a young boy fascinated by her. It’s the tale of a smitten fan and how in the end he gets to meet his favourite star in person.

The story of the film may also remind the cine buffs of Jaya Bachchan’s 70s hit film Guddi. Also, Shahrukh Khan’s film Om Shanti Om too showed a similar storyline as Shahrukh’s character was smitten with the movie star Shanti Priya, played by Deepika Padukone.

Bombay Talkies comprises of four different short films directed by filmmakers Karan Johar, Dibakar Banerjee, Anurag Kashyap and Zoya Akhtar.

While Karan Johar is making a film about a director, who sells love through cinema, Anurag Kashyap’s film has Amitabh Bachchan in main role.

Priyanka Chopra out from Salman Khan’s Kick

It seems that the camp war in Bollywood is on a high as it is being reported that PC has lost her role in Salman’s Kick because of her closeness with SRK. Everyone knows the bond that Piggy Chops shares with the King Khan and it’s not easy for Sallu to ignore that. This has caused a loss to Priyanka and benefited Deepika Padukone as she has taken over the role that was earlier offered to Priyanka.
A source said, “Deepika Padukone is to romance Salman in ‘Kick’……looks like Priyanka’s close proximity with King Khan (Shah Rukh Khan) has made her lose the role.” He further informed that she is close to Salman’s sisters and there is no project taking place between Salman and Pee Cee.

Filmmaker Sajid Nadiadwala has given a thought on Ileana D’Cruz also but has finally roped in Dippy to enact the female lead in the flick.

The body part that Sonal Chauhan is proudest of

They say if you have it, flaunt it. And Sonal Chauhan does exactly that. The actress, who apparently is quite proud of her shapely legs, has instructed her stylist to create clothes that sit well above her knees.

The model-turned-actress - who was last seen in Bbuddah...Hoga Terra Baap - didn't have a single release last year. But as of now, she is looking forward to her next co-starring Neil Nitin Mukesh. And thanks to her choice of hemlines, she is bound to get noticed.

A source close to her says, "Sonal is very conscious when it comes to her body and the clothes she wears, in public or in private. At the same she feels that her legs should be shown because she feels they are incredible! She has instructed her designers to come up with clothes where her toned legs are visible."

Sonal's stylist Anish Jain feels the actress has never had to face a faux pas, due to the length of her dresses. "She is pretty as well as hot and she knows how to carry herself in public. Her legs are an asset to her personality and if she insists on flaunting them, it highlights her self-confidence," adds Anish.

Kim Kardashian wants baby bump to pop soon

Kim Kardashian, who is expecting her first child in July with her rapper boyfriend of Kanye West, is looking forward to have a big baby bump

The reality TV star said that she is struggling to get dressed every day as she has put on weight everywhere but her belly hasn’t popped yet, Contactmusic reported.

The 32-year-old beauty, who is tired of trying to conceal her pregnancy curves, said that some days her baby bump really shows, and some days it doesn’t, so she never really know what she is going to look like.

Kardashian added that she can’t wait to show off her bump, once it gets bigger.

The Kourtney ‘n’ Kim Take Miami star also revealed that she loves being pregnant as it has enabled her to shop for a whole new wardrobe.

Kristen Stewart waiting 'patiently' for Robert Pattinson

The 22-year-old starlet and the British actor are taking an amicable break away from their relationship while he films his new western movie The Rover in Australia and although the actress is unhappy about their separation she is reportedly willing to wait for him no matter how long it takes.

A source told HollywoodLife.com: "Kristen is really missing Rob. Regardless of their 'romantic' relationship, they are still really good friends. That is something that won't change. Stewart is not ready to say goodbye to this relationship and will do whatever it takes to make it work.

"She is just being patient and spending a lot of time with her mom. Her mom has been very supportive and just keeps encouraging her to be true to herself and to keep things simple."

According to E! News, the Twilight Saga star was thrilled when her 26-year-old on/off boyfriend of four years got in touch with her recently and they are now in contact on a regular basis.

The insider said: "She is counting down the minutes until he is home. He loves her, but he wants to work, too - which is understandable."

Stewart was recently said to be ignoring Rupert Sanders' romantic advances after being inundated with pleading texts and emails from her 'Snow White and the Huntsman' director - with whom she had an affair last summer, leading to the breakdown of his marriage with Liberty Ross.

A source previously revealed she has snubbed the 42-year-old director's messages, as she is so ashamed of her "momentary indiscretion" and the hurt she caused Pattinson.

Anne Hathaway denies throwing a fit over Oscar dress

'Les Miserables' star Anne Hathaway's dress fiasco at the Oscars is grabbing more spotlight than her golden statuette.

The 30-year-old actress' representative has now come forward to deny reports that she threw a fit after she discovered that her 'Les Miserables' co-star Amanda Seyfried was wearing a gown that was similar to her Valentino dress, prompting her to change into a pink Prada gown for the Oscars, the Ace Showbiz reported.

While Hathaway has acknowledged that the Prada gown was a last minute choice, her representative has denied conflict between the two stars who played mother (Fantine) and daughter (Cosette) in 'Les Miserable'.

"Anne and Amanda are very close friends. There were no hostilities at all," a representative for Anne told Gossip Cop denying a conflict between Hathaway and Seyfried at the Oscars dress rehearsals.

Us Weekly cited a source to claim that Hathaway "threw a fit" to Amanda at Oscars rehearsal because of the similar-looking dresses they were going to wear.

The source mentioned that Hathaway was deeply upset after learning the situation. Hathaway "never told Amanda she had to change the dress. Amanda didn't want to deal with it and left."

Hathaway is said to have kept her team of stylists waiting for hours at her home before picking up the pink dress.

After her Best Supporting Oscar win, Hathaway had released a statement to clear why she did not wear the gown by her favourite designer.

"It came to my attention late Saturday night that there would be a dress worn to the Oscars that is remarkably similar to the Valentino I had intended to wear, and so I decided it was best for all involved to change my plans. Though I love the dress I did wear, it was a difficult last-minute decision as I had so looked forward to wearing Valentino," she had said.

I'll be happy to be a part of TOIFA celebration: SRK

Shah Rukh Khan unveiled the trophy of TOIFA, to be held in Vancouver from April 4-6.

You just unveiled the trophy that will be presented at the Times of India Film Awards (TOIFA). What are your thoughts on TOIFA?
It's a beautiful trophy. And I will be proud to win one, whenever. The TOIFA is being held in Vancouver, Canada, between April 4 and 6. And I will be happy to be a part of the celebration. Coming to Bollywood film awards, personally, I think there is one award too many. But on the other hand, it is nice. I hope that with an organization like the Times of India behind it, TOIFA is more classy and above board. Also, the fact that it has a global reach makes it obviously better and so much more relevant than what we have domestically. I was telling Vineet Jain, MD, TOI, that he should make it on international standards. It has to be of a very high calibre. The award function itself should not be longer than two hours. It should be devised as an evening where the honour should become a little more important than the honoured. Only then will people like to come and participate. For example, me as an actor, as a star, should be there despite and in spite of the fact that I may or may not get the award. Now, everyone lands up saying, 'mujhe milega award'. I hear some people even ask, 'Batao award mil raha hai kya, then I will come'. That's a culture we need to get rid of. Insha Allah, we should create a platform where true merit triumphs above everything else.

You are Hindi cinema's biggest icon overseas. How significant is our cinema in the world today?
I cannot say there is no one better than me, or that I'm the one actor with the largest reach overseas. But I can definitely say that whenever I get an opportunity, anytime, anywhere to take Indian cinema to areas where it is comparatively less known, I grab the chance. Nine years ago, I had gone to Frankfurt on a small plane and addressed an audience of 50 people at a gathering. I recall how a German lady came and sang a Hindi song on a guitar with me. It was an informal thing; there was no professional fee involved. Post Frankfurt, I went to Dusseldorf and, once again, I noticed, across small little clubs, that the Germans liked Indian films. It started off like that. I also met three 60-year-old ladies, who used to head a television channel and whose dream was to create something new for Germany. They too wanted to do something with Indian cinema and, for some reason, I was part of it. To me, the biggest high is that in my term as an actor or movie star, or now an entrepreneur, if I'm able to create inroads into markets where Indian cinema is not watched or popular. In my opinion, our cinema has everything in it, despite the fact that the language is not understood; and hence, I would like to make those inroads. Only when this happens will the crossover thing actually happen.

Are you happy to represent the Hindi film industry on an international platform like the TOIFA?

As I said earlier, I don't know whether I'm the right person. But I must say that I'm very happy to represent the Hindi cinema fraternity on an international platform. I've been to Vancouver for a film shoot; then I went to Toronto for an awards ceremony. It's very nice that we can involve people like Jim Nickel, Acting Consul General and Deputy High Commissioner of Canada in India. It would also be nice if we can get the local Canadian people to participate. Out of the 100 who come to our function, even if seven take back some memories, then it is cool. It's worthwhile. Then, we are increasing the market for our films. The more market we make for our films, the more business we will have. The more business we have, our creativity will find more wings, and the more creativity our cinema has, the more international we can be. We are the last of the non-Hollywood cinema-making nations and we should not let go of that. We should increase that.

Katrina Kaif enjoys special screening of 3D animation movie Main Krishna Hoon with underprivileged children

Katrina Kaif with underprivileged children from an NGO
Katrina Kaif was spotted in a freak-out mood with her little fans at a special screening of the 3D live action-animation flick, Main Krishna Hoon, in a Mumbai multiplex on Tuesday.

Dozens of underprivileged children from the NGO Asha Kiran watched the film with Katrina, and were seen excitedly jostling to interact with the superstar before and after the show. She also broke into an impromptu jig at one point, even as the young brigade matched her moves.

Katrina’s involvement with the film happened because it is co-produced by her hairstylist Promila Hunter. The actress has pitched in with a cameo in the film and has helped the makers rope in good friend Hrithik Roshan for a special role, too. Katrina has also agreed to help promote the film, and Tuesday’s screening for the children was part of the effort

Pretty in a deep tangerine blazer teamed with casual white shirt and black trousers, Katrina looked dressed for bonhomie. Quite obviously, the bachcha party seemed more energised by her company than the idea of watching the film.

Main Krishna Hoon is directed by Rajeev S. Ruia, who made the My Friend Ganesha trilogy of animation films for children in the past. While Katrina’s role in the film is being kept under wraps, she reportedly essays the human incarnate of Radha.

The film stars Juhi Chawla and Rajneesh Duggal in lead roles and the makers have created a very special appearance for Hrithik in the film. Both Katrina and Hrithik readily agreed to do their cameos in the film when approached without even reading the script, according to the makers.

Bollywood stars have been known to be encouraging when it comes to helping their staff members realise celluloid ambitions. If Katrina has offered to help her hairstylist without charging any money for it, last year Kareena Kapoor made a brief appearance in the Chinta ta chita song of Rowdy Rathore because the film was co-produced by her stylist Shabina Khan.

2002 hit-and-run case: Salman Khan to be tried for culpable homicide

New Delhi: In a setback for Salman Khan, a Mumbai court has ruled that the actor will be tried for culpable homicide not amounting to murder in a 2002 hit-and-run case.

The court also asked Salman Khan to appear before the sessions court on March 11, 2013.

If convicted, Salman Khan could face up to ten years in jail.

On September 28, 2002, Salman Khan's Toyota Land Cruiser had rammed into a bakery in suburban Bandra, killing one and injuring four others who were sleeping on a pavement.

The actor was booked on a charge of culpable homicide not amounting to murder. However, he said that it was merely an accident and he did not have any intention to kill anyone.

The Bombay high court had held that Section 304 part II of the Indian Penal Code (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) was not applicable in the case and that the actor be tried under Section 304 A of the Indian Penal Code (rash and negligent driving) and other relevant sections.

The court had framed charges against the actor under section 304 A of the Indian Penal Code (rash and negligent driving), 279 (rash driving), 337 (causing minor injuries), 338 (causing major injuries) and 427 (negligence).

Earlier this year, the police had again sought that the actor be tried under more serious charge of 'culpable homicide not amounting to murder'.
